The capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.
Resilience is the critical element when determining the way we react to and deal with stress. When we think about resilient people, we think that they see the big picture, they take the process one step at a time, they embrace change and they find meaning in the chaos. Resilient people do not let calamity define them.
Hara Estroff Marano, Editor-at-Large for Psychology Today, said it best in her article “The Art of Resilience”: “They [resilient people] find resilience by moving towards a goal beyond themselves, transcending pain and grief by perceiving bad times as a temporary state of affairs… It’s possible to strengthen your inner self and your belief in yourself, to define yourself as capable and competent. It’s possible to fortify your psyche. It’s possible to develop a sense of mastery.” Resilient and truly happy people understand the meaning of “good enough”.
