Communication is the foundation for all relationships. The way you communicate with people sets the stage for your entire rapport with them: trust, intimacy, common threads, loyalty, and more. It starts with basic elements of communication and crescendos into a full message of meaning, intention, and emotion.

The first element of communication is all about What Is Said. This consists of:

  • Influencers in the communication such as one’s culture, personal experiences, and social construct.
  • Words are the building blocks of our communication. By blending them together we formulate our message. By choosing certain words over others, we let people know the formality of our message and its contents.
  • Understanding the impact of each message takes mastering the four (4) components of this element: Objectives, Audience, Channels, and Response.

Purpose

As a result of taking this course we expect you will be able to:

  1. List the definition of communication and the four components every message needs.
  2. Understand the three elements of communication that every expert agrees upon.
  3. Recognize the true costs of miscommunication.
  4. Know your communication influencers and how they alter your messaging.
  5. Decide on word choices that accurately reflect and convey your communication needs.
  6. Develop a Communication Planner that provides insight into your strengths and helps you accept your gaps during your communication.

Think for a moment on the ramifications of mastering this skillset and meeting the objectives above. This will have a huge impact on alleviating stress in your life.
